War

Introduction :

I got inspired by a few war poems and I tried my hand at them.

This poem is from the perspective of a woman left behind after almost everyone in her family has left to fight in the upcoming war. She comes to the realization that war is nothing but pointless.

“War”

She was prepared…well prepared
For the worst.
But she hoped…hopefully hoped
For the best.
All of them gone
With shields, daggers and swords
And she alone left with silent chords.
All of them there-father,
Husband, son and brother.
She wanted to stop them, but
She could not.
Instead, she prepared…well prepared
Herself to see cut after another cut,
Pools of blood surrounding their bodies,
Dagger in their knees,
Their eyes still and glassy,
And their bodies unmoving.
She didn’t care- efficacy or inefficacy.
All she knew was that
War was the most striking example of
Failure…the utter failure of
The power of persuasion, communication, and wisdom
To try and fix the cracks in human relationships.
She scoffed…and scoffed
At the absolute foolishness of humanity
To start a war and kill hundreds
Rather than truce and save thousands.
This dumbness of humanity
And win of self-vanity
Will be taking the lives of so many.
