Introduction :
In order to achieve something- be it a dream college, a job promotion, or something as simple as making a perfectly edible breakfast- everyone puts in hard work and effort.
And once you achieve it you want someone to tell you that they are impressed because as humans we all want to be praised. Instead all you get is criticism and comparison.
This is a poem about that.
“Praise”
“You did a good job”
Are five words for which your ears throb.
You work till the end of the clock
Just for others to laugh and mock.
You work till your hands bleed
Just for others to label it as greed.
“I am proud of you”
Are five words that are joy’s cue.
You work till you get the desired result
Just to hear other people’s insults.
You work till the end of your brain’s sanity
Just to face other people’s harsh cruelty.
There is no one born yet in this world
Who finds hearing absurd.
A praise can breathe life into the dead,
A praise can reach both the heart and the head.
But others eyes seem to have a filter
Such that on a perfect staircase they only see splinters,
Their eyes never fall on the hand-woven carpet.
